MEADOWHEAD & STEVENSTON WORK PACKAGE 6.1 & 6.3.

The project consisted of 2No. concrete structures (Irvine Sports Club Pumping Station and West Road Pumping Station), 915m of 1200mm micro‐tunnels and 12No. associated concrete shafts of 5.0m diameter with varying depths up to 12.1m deep. Irvine Sports Club pumping station was constructed as a circular caisson shaft (12.5m diameter, depth 15.5m). It was designed by Ward & Burke Construction to deal with the existing site constraints of: Network Rail Railway Line; adjacent to A737 Road Embankment; site geology of silty fine sand overlying sandy gravelly clay overlying mudstone rock; and storage capacity requirements. It represents an alternative to the design proposed by the Client consisting of segmental ring caisson shaft.

  • West Road pumping station was constructed as a circular caisson shaft (8.0m diameter, depth 8.70m).
