Client: Mayo County Council
Rehabilitation of a three span reinforced concrete structure. All works located in, and adjacent to Bunowen River, an environmentally sensitive habitat for flora and fauna. All works within and below non-tidal open water and in an urban setting (Louisburg Town).
- Louisburgh town is the main carriageway for all road users accessing the west coast from Westport so high volumes of traffic especially tourists were ever present during the works.
- Works included removal of the existing bridge parapets and surfacing, addition of a reinforced over-concrete slab, edge beams and abutment extensions and general concrete repairs.
- Steel cantilevered walkways were installed both sides of the new parapet to remove risks of pedestrians and traffic colliding, which was a major concern of the original alignment.
