Job duties:

Hire, train and supervise the tunnelling crews on company procedures.

Responsible for the daily functioning of tunnelling operations including: examine the project specification and construction site to determine materials required; identify potential errors that need to be corrected; determine the required equipment to be used on the project; oversee the pipe install into the launching shaft; and direct the tunneling crews on installing components inside the launch shaft and tunnel. Oversee tunneling set up. Responsible for organizing the tunnelling site, outlining where the separation system, control container, tunnelling pipes are to be located for the works.

Direct tunneling crew and site engineers on tunneling set up procedures, depending on equipment.   Organize the workings of jacking in the wet cast high pressure reinforced concrete microtunnel pipes. Review tunnel alignment and ensure the surveyors layout the monitoring points. Direct the TBM operator on the corrective actions and instruct the surveyors to carry out additional surveys during the install. Evaluate and deal with differing ground conditions.

Direct the crew and site engineers on any changed construction methods. Determine corrective measures and ensure they are communicated with the tunnelling crew and site engineers. Oversee the separation systems of ground material and water during tunnelling. Ensure that bentonite quantities are determined and set prior to tunnelling start.

Ensure the centrifuge systems are installed, and are capable of working with the encountered ground conditions. Required to travel between sites during tunnelling to ensure there are no issues.

Travel 10-20% of the time to various unanticipated West Coast project construction sites within the U.S.

Requirements:  

Must have 5 years of experience in a Microtunneling Manager position. Must have 5 years of experience in construction management of microtunnels in excess of 1500LF (linear feet) in length and greater than 72 inches in diameter.

Salary Info:       

The annual salary for this position is $136,739-$156,000.
