Ward & Burke are seeking a Wastewater Treatment Plant Manager, who will be responsible for the overall management and operation of a wastewater treatment plant, reporting to the Operations Manager.

Key responsibilities will include;

Operations Management

  • Overseeing daily operations of the wastewater treatment plant.
  • Ensuring the plant operates in compliance within the emission limit values.
  • Monitoring plant performance and implementing improvements to enhance efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Developing and maintaining standard operating procedures (SOPs).

Personnel Management

  • Supervising and managing plant staff, including hiring and training new staff.
  • Scheduling and coordinating the work of plant operators and maintenance personnel.
  • Providing ongoing training and development opportunities for staff.

Maintenance and Repair

  • Overseeing preventive maintenance programs and ensuring timely repairs of plant equipment.
  • Coordinating with maintenance teams to troubleshoot and resolve operational issues.
  • Maintaining an inventory of spare parts and ensuring the availability of critical components.

Compliance and Reporting

  • Ensuring all plant operations comply with environmental regulations and safety standards.
  • Preparing and submitting regulatory reports, including discharge monitoring reports and compliance documentation.
  • Conducting internal audits and inspections to ensure adherence to regulatory requirements.

Budgeting and Financial Management

  • Developing and managing the plant’s operating budget.
  • Monitoring expenditures and optimizing resource allocation.
  • Identifying cost-saving opportunities and implementing efficiency measures.

Emergency Management

  • Developing and implementing emergency response plans for plant operations.
  • Coordinating emergency response activities and communicating effectively with emergency services.
  • Conducting regular emergency drills and training for plant staff.

Stakeholder Communication

  • Liaising with regulatory agencies, community organisations, and other stakeholders.
  • Addressing public inquiries and concerns regarding plant operations.
  • Representing the plant at community meetings and public hearings.

Health and Safety

  • Ensuring RAMS are completed and approved prior to commencement of any site works.
  • Following W&B health and safety and statutory requirements, achieved using our internal systems.
  • Supervision of external sources whilst working onsite.

 

The suitable candidate will possess the following;

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field.
  • Certification as a Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator (Advanced certifications in wastewater management are preferred).
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in wastewater treatment plant operations, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
  • Demonstrated experience in regulatory compliance, budgeting, and staff management.
  • Strong knowledge of wastewater treatment processes and technologies.
  • Excellent leadership and team management skills.
  • Proficient in using plant management software and other relevant technologies.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and handle emergencies.

 

This position typically involves both office work and fieldwork within the plant.

The Wastewater Plant Manager may be required to work outside normal business hours, including weekends and holidays, especially during emergencies.

The role involves exposure to hazardous materials and environments; appropriate safety measures and personal protective equipment (PPE) are mandatory.
